Roast Beast

“This would be so much easier if you would just let my staff do it,” she comments as she fans the smoke out the window of the kitchen for the third time.

Okay, so maybe tackling a holiday feast for the numerous hodgepodge of the Winchester clan was a bit much for their first dinner at home.  But Sam will be damned if he’s going to admit it now.  They are too far in to back out.

“We’ve got this covered baby,” Sam answers with a quick kiss to her forehead and a squeeze around her shoulders.

“This is the third time you’ve burned the stuffing,” Hel points out helpfully.

“I’m just getting a feel for the oven,” Sam huffs.  “It’s going to be perfect.”

“It’s going to be a disaster,” Hel jokes but when Sam gives her a bitch face she immediately leans over to rub her arms along the small of his back.  “I’m sorry.  I know this is important to you.”

“I just want this to be perfect,” Sam whispers.  “We’ve never had a home before and there’s so much more family than we’re used to.  I just want everyone to have a good time, eat some good food, and relax.”

“I think we have the good time and the relax part covered honey,” Hel snorts.  “It’s the food we’re struggling with here.”

“It’s going to be fine,” Sam reassures her.

“It’s going to be Chinese take out,” Hel snorts.

“What the hell are you guys doing in here?” Dean asks as he steps into the kitchen that is finally clearing of smoke.  “Are you trying to burn down the house before you unpack everything?”

“Shut up,” Sam orders.

Hel just gives Dean the finger, which he returns gleefully before looping his arms around her and hugging her tight.

“Did you enjoy your vacation?” Sam asks as he starts measuring water for another try at the stuffing.

“You mean did I enjoy wading through a swamp for two weeks so Cas could pay tribute to a giant frog with terrible breath?” Dean asks as he gets himself a beer from the fridge.  “Then yes, it was fabulous.”

“Giant frog?” Sam questions.

“You don’t want to know,” Dean and Hel answer at the same time.

The next few moments pass in companionable silence as Sam hopes for the best and heads toward the oven with Dean and Hel trading amused glances behind his back.  They hear footsteps pounding around on the floor outside of the kitchen and just as they turn toward the door Sam and Hel’s daughter comes bursting through laughing as two dark haired, green eyed boys chase along behind her on their much shorter legs.  Dean grins at his boys as they rip through the kitchen after their cousin and he outright laughs as Cas brings up the rear scooting along at a slower pace to make the children feel like they’ve managed to outrun him.  Cas blushes pink at the fond looks he receives from the three adults in the kitchen but soldiers on out the other door after the kids all the same.

“Remember when he was afraid to pick Hellena up?”  Dean asks.

Hel chuckles “Yes, and you dumped her on him naked as the moment she was born one night and she peed all over his coat.”

“I miss that coat sometimes,” Dean sighs with a far away look in his eyes.

“But the boys make up for it,” Sam counters waving a wooden spoon in his brother’s face.

“No doubt,” Dean smiles as he swats the spoon away.  “Bobby and John make up for a whole lot of things that really sucked.”

Dinner ends up being two hours late but somehow everything is still hot and everyone is still in good spirits.  Sam suspects Gabriel might have something to do with that but he doesn’t say anything to rock the boat.

Afterwards he and Dean share a beer on the back porch and he looks in through the window at his wife holding their child as he comments “Sure is different than when it was just the two of us isn’t it?”

“Better,” Dean answers with a nod.  “But don’t spread that around.”

“Team Winchester’s up to ten members strong now,” Sam chuckles.  “We can almost make a sports team.”

“Eleven,” Dean corrects with a grin “But don’t tell Hel I told you or she’ll kill me.”

At Sam’s dumbstruck face Dean laughs long and hard before adding “It’ll be twelve or thirteen if Cas and I have anything to say about it.  What did you think the trip to the giant frog was for?”

I love that Cas was afriad to hold a baby and then wants to have like 10 kids. I think that's awesome.

D'awwwww. :D

I think I want to know more about Bobby and John, but I also think you're already pretty overwhelmed by this verse as it is. (Can you imagine what they would do to Hellena when they're older? Poor girl will never have a boyfriend that sticks around very long with that many overprotective men around.)

I know! I may write more in the verse eventually. I love it! Thank you!
